Breakout: Diet & Nutrition Featuring Dr. B. Brett Finlay (Concurrent Session)

The human body contains about 100 trillion cells, but only maybe 1 in 10 of those cells is actually — human. The rest are from bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms. Recent studies have linked changes in the microbiome to some of the most pressing medical problems of our time, including obesity, allergies, diabetes and bowel disorders, as well as psychiatric problems like autism, schizophrenia and depression. Dr. B. Brett Finlay, author of Let Them Eat Dirt, will discuss how these organisms interact with the body to either prevent or promote disease and offers practical advice on how to encourage diversity in our own bodies, in order to encourage resilience to disease and promote good health. Discover how the life that lives in and on us affects our health, development and even evolution.
